CUTA is proud to collaborate with UITP to deliver World Public Transport Day in Canada. Launching for the very first time on April 17, 2026, this new annual global celebration recognizes the essential role public transport plays in our everyday lives.
Created by UITP and supported in Canada by CUTA, this international initiative shines a spotlight on how public transport connects communities, supports economic growth, improves health and wellbeing, and drives sustainable development in cities and regions around the world.
CUTA Encourages All Members to Participate
CUTA invites all members to take part in this important global movement by downloading and using the official Campaign Toolkit. Access to the toolkit is free and provides everything needed, making participation easy at any scale, from simple digital engagement to full community campaigns.
The toolkit includes:
- Key messages
- Ready-to-use social media content
- Press materials
- Advocacy guidance
- Activation ideas
By joining the celebration and leveraging the toolkit, members can raise awareness, strengthen advocacy efforts, engage their communities, and be part of a powerful new global movement championing public transport.
Inspiring the Next Generation of Transit Professionals
At CUTA, we’re taking celebrations for World Public Transport Day one step further.
Through the Careers in Public Transit Outreach Program (CIPTOP), alongside the leadership of our Youth and Emerging Leaders Subcommittee (YELSC), we’re encouraging members across Canada to move beyond awareness and take action by connecting directly with students and future talent.
How you can get involved
We are inviting transit professionals, including transit agencies and business members working in the sector, to participate on April 17 by:
- Delivering presentations and engaging with students at secondary schools, post-secondary institutions, trade schools, and community organizations. Ready-to-use presentation templates have already been developed, simply tailor them to reflect your organization and experience.
- Sharing any existing presentation materials or career resources with CUTA so we can continue to build and strengthen a national library of outreach tools available to all members.
- Leveraging your local connections (schools, colleges, community groups, or career centres) to help coordinate and schedule outreach opportunities in your region.
- Reaching out to colleagues within your organization to encourage their participation and help expand our outreach efforts.
Let’s work together to make a meaningful impact this World Public Transport Day.
