Celebrating the First-Ever World Public Transport Day in Canada

We are proud to partner with the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) to bring the very first World Public Transport Day to Canada on April 17, 2026—a new global celebration recognizing the vital role public transit plays in our everyday lives.

From coast to coast, communities across Canada are celebrating the systems, people, and riders who keep our cities and regions moving every day. This inaugural event shines a spotlight on the importance of public transit in connecting people, supporting economic growth, and advancing sustainable mobility.

Canadians are invited to follow along as celebrations unfold nationwide, including the illumination of iconic landmarks such as the CN Tower, Niagara Falls, and the Calgary Tower, among others. Transit systems across the country will mark the occasion with a variety of activities and local initiatives.

“When you give people a reason to celebrate transit – they do.” said Marco D’Angelo, President and CEO of CUTA. “If World Public Transport Day shows us anything, it’s that we’re not just participating in the future of mobility – we’re helping to define it.”

We encourage our members and partners across the country to take part in this important global celebration and help recognize the essential role public transit plays in building vibrant, connected, and sustainable communities. Be sure to use #WPTD2026 to participate.
